General Discussion

Tomorrow is a big day with all eyes on Denis' detention hearing. I'm sure hoping the media attention remains deep and steady to keep this case relevant on a national level. For the purpose of ensuring that the trial is attended by both Oloans and Denis, I'm praying the judge decides on pretrial detention (denial of bail). As obvious of a need this may be to us, this won't be automatic and I expect the prosecution to motion for this. There normally is a general presumption in favor of release, the judge must be convinced (usually by clear and convincing evidence) that no combination of conditions (such as electronic monitoring, travel restrictions, financial controls) would reasonably assure the defendant’s appearance and community safety. I may have missed something, but it doesn't appear that Oloans has been given a detention hearing date. If I'm incorrect here, someone please clarify this. If this is the case, then that is quite odd and certainly makes the imagination wander with some interesting scenarios of him turning state's evidence. Either way, Lord, let your work in justice continue, and move the judge to hold them until trial!
