When we confess Jesus as Lord, we need to understand that means surrendering to God's will, His instructions, and guidance in our lives, not merely seeing Jesus as Divine. Then we must grow as believers by constantly praying and studying the Scriptures, for God has promised "if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5 We need to fear God, be submissive to Him and Him only. Walking in obedience to God is essential in restoring our relationship with Him and as a result we grow in our gift of discerning the spirits. When we worship the wrong type of spirit, we are openly inviting demonic activity into our lives. Much of what we see today in the church, that has been passed as worship of God, is pleasing to demons. Many things passed off as the work of the Holy Spirit, are the work of unclean spirits. Philippians 12:12-13 states that it is the Spirit of God who does the work in our lives. Many churches lack this work of the Spirit of God in them. This is why the church does not have a powerful testimony, the anointing of the Spirit is not evident, and we see a lot of counterfeit doctrine in the church. The Spirit of the Lord will guide us into truth and righteousness, not into following doctrines of men and an exterior appearance of piety and modesty.
